30 May 2012 - Australia and NZ Agreement to Strengthen Criminal History Checks

Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Justice Jason Clare today announced Australia and New Zealand will conduct a six month trial of information sharing for criminal history checks. It follows the announcement by the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand on 29 January this year to improve the exchange of criminal history information. For the purposes of the six month trial, New Zealand will be able to seek criminal records from all Australian jurisdictions and Queensland will be able to seek criminal records from New Zealand.

2.2 million Australians benefiting from the Fair Work Act | Ministers' Media Centre

Figures released today show that 2.2 million working Australians have benefitted from enterprise agreements made under the Fair Work Act. Minister for Workplace Relations Bill Shorten said the Trends in Enterprise Bargaining Report for the December 2011 quarter shows that since the Fair Work Act began, more than 16 200 enterprise agreements have been made, covering 2.2million employees including 260 000 employees covered by Fair Work Act enterprise agreements approved in the last quarter.. As at 31 December last year there were 22 457 agreements in operation covering almost 2.5 million employees, including the 2.2 million under the Fair Work Act, Mr Shorten said.
