13 year battle for Cape York land settled | Minister for Indigenous Affairs

A 13 year native title dispute over 2826 square kilometres of land around Cape York Peninsula has ended with the Federal Court recognising two native title claims. Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, said the first determination, delivered in Cairns yesterday, recognises native title for the Wuthathi, Kuuku Ya'u and Northern Kaanju peoples for the 'Bromley' claim. 'These decisions will ensure the Wuthathi, Kuuku Ya'u and Northern Kaanju peoples are able to continue their long-held relationship with the land and water as well as obtaining the economic benefits that native title brings,' Minister Scullion said.

28 April 2015?Statement on Mr Andrew Chan and Mr Myuran Sukumaran

On 25 April 2015, I wrote again to Indonesian Attorney-General Prasetyo regarding the cases of the two Australian men facing the death penalty, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. I drew to his attention that proceedings are still underway in both the Indonesian Constitutional Court and the Indonesian Judicial Commission that are relevant to Mr Chan and Mr Sukumaran. Respectfully, the Australian Government calls on the President and Attorney General of Indonesia to stay the executions until the Constitutional Court and Judicial Commission proceedings are completed.
