19 April 2012 - New Zealand moves to introduce plain packaging of tobacco

Attorney-General Nicola Roxon welcomed the announcement by the New Zealand Government today that has agreed in principle to introduce plain packaging of tobacco subject to further consultation to be held later this year. I congratulate the New Zealand Government on taking this first important and symbolic step towards introducing plain packaging, Ms Roxon said. This week the United Kingdom Government also announced public consultations about whether to introduce plain packaging in their country.
