The Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Bob Carr, the Australian Minister for Defence, Stephen Smith, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, H.E Mr Koichiro Gemba, and the Minister of Defense of Japan, H.E Mr Satoshi Morimoto, met in Sydney on 14 September to discuss regional and global security issues and ways to advance security and defence cooperation between Australia and Japan. 2. Australia and Japan are natural strategic partners sharing common values and interests, including a commitment to democracy, the rule of law, protection of human rights and open markets. 3.
