Pages - 22 October 2012 - Border Protection Command assists vessel

HMAS Wollongong, operating under the coordination of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, rendered assistance to a suspected irregular entry vessel north-west of Christmas Island this morning. The vessel was located by a Customs and Border Protection Dash-8 surveillance aircraft, operating under the coordination of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, following an earlier request for assistance from the vessel. Border Protection Command has transferred the passengers to Christmas Island, where they will undergo initial security, health and identity checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
