Exercise Cooperation Spirit 2011, a Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Exercise involving the Australian Defence Force and Chinese People's Liberation Army in Sichuan Province, China concluded on Thursday 01 December. Director General Exercises and Evaluation at Joint Operations Command, Air Commodore David Steele, said the exercise was an important example of defence cooperation between Australia and China. Exercise Cooperation Spirit 2011 commenced on 27 November and was hosted by the PLA at its Comprehensive Emergency Response Training Base at Chongyi in Sichuan Province.
